Exploring Online Learning Sites and Engaging Students in Lessons

Description

In this workshop, participants will navigate through a variety of online learning sites, exploring the key features of each. Hear about ways to use the websites to engage students! One activity demonstration includes showing Educators how to use your own materials to create a lesson AND how to keep your students tuned-in!

The websites we will work with are:

Participants should have their computers and smartphones available.

The content in this presentation is geared towards serving the migrant populations in New York State as defined under Title I, Part C and the approved State Service Delivery Plan, and may NOT be appropriate to all situations.

Objectives/Learning Targets

  • Navigate and Explore the featured websites;
  • Demonstrate creating an online lesson, and how to recycle for future use; and
  • Provide strategies to keep students engaged in lessons.

About the Presenter

Travis Williamson: In his 13th year with the Migrant Education Program, Travis has held many positions. While working alongside with OSY Specialists and fellow recruiters around the nation, he has had the opportunity to share his ideas and strategies in hopes to better serve students.

Travis has been with the ID&R program, after a three-year stay with the South Carolina Department of Education where he played a role in all of the duties associated with their MEP. Travis currently is a member of the iSOSY and IDRC consortia and has presented at several national and state conferences to demonstrate how mapping and technological strategies can improve with serving and finding migrant students.
