ELA Regents Prep in Four Session

ELA in 4 sessions

These materials are intended to help you prepare a student to take the NYS Common Core English Language Arts Regents Exam.

The organization of this version is based on the assumption that you have four approximately one-hour sessions to work with the student.  If what I have chosen to prioritize in these four sessions do not align perfectly with the individual needs of the student you’re working with, I encourage you to adapt the activities and materials to your situation.  I also encourage you to substitute any developmentally appropriate texts that you think will capture your students’ interest.

Description of Resources available under “Book Resource Files,” below.

Facilitator Guide: This Facilitator Guide has general information about the NYS Common Core English Language Arts Regents Exam, along with specific information and guidance for each session, and answers to the questions to the student handouts.

Student Handouts: Each session has its own student handout with information, examples, and exercises for the student to practice.

Other Handouts:

  • Annotated January 2019 Exam: Provides an example for how to mark the text while reading. This is used in Sessions 2 and 3.
  • Evidence T-Chart Example: Sample of how to use a T-Chart to organize evidence for each side of the argument, from each reading text. This is technique is introduced in Session 3.

Past ELA Regents Exams:
