The New York State Migrant Education Program is introducing a new form of professional development (PD) for Migrant Educators.

Indeed, well-done PD is crucial for all teachers, but the idea of losing a day of valuable tutoring time leaves many Migrant Educators scrambling for more time to fit in workshops and training among already very busy schedules. PD should not cause apprehension, but be seen as a valuable part of work life, career-building, and life-long learning.

Let’s be honest, PD training needs to be flexible. Give me options people!

The NYS MEP is striving to provide high-quality PD, instructional resources, and technical assistance, which responds individually to each team members’ needs and translates to student growth.

That is why the Migrant Technical Assistance Support Center (M-TASC) is rolling out PD in a new way for the upcoming year. We believe that PD that is ongoing and on-demand is essential to teach valuable skills and strategies and support professional growth!

On-demand professional development via NYSMigrant.org will allow Migrant Educators to learn on their own terms. With budget cuts across the board, it is not possible to have statewide in-person PD conferences, so creating a venue for PD that is consistent and supported is essential. Because of the digital nature, on-demand PD is available anytime and anywhere that you have an internet connection. There are several forms of on-demand PD including facilitated workshops and self-serve.

Stay tuned as M-TASC rolls out METS level and individualized personal tours to give you an idea of what is available!
