Prepositions show relationships between words in a sentence.
The New York State Mathematics Learning Standards identifies a list of prepositions that can help kindergarten and prekindergarten children describe the relative positions of objects in the environment, such as shapes: up, down, top, bottom, under, over, above, below, in front of, behind, next to, and beside.
Prepositions and Following Directions is a print-ready handout that’s easy to use. Simply follow the prompts to get emergent learners moving as they act out prepositions while learning. One download (found below) includes both English and Spanish vocabulary- just print and go!
Note: A list of RAZ Plus/Learning A–Z book titles that feature some of these prepositions is included for additional ideas when time allows.
