Geneseo Migrant Center - Taming the TV Monster

Taming the TV Monster is a workshop/lesson designed to provide migrant farmworker parents, guardians, and other caregivers with the information necessary to determine how much television viewing and what kind of television programming is appropriate for their children, to understand the pros and cons of children watching television, and to learn how to monitor and manage television viewing in their home. Objectives

  1. To provide the participants with the information necessary to determine how much television watching and what kind of television programming is appropriate for their children.
  2. To help parents understand the pros and cons of children watching television
  3. To help parents learn how to monitor and manage television viewing in their home.

Audience

Migrant farmworker parents, guardians, and other caregivers.

  • TV Preference Chart
  • TV Log
  • Flip Chart 
  • Markers
  • Optional: TV schedule of local programming

Note: This lesson/workshop is designed to be conducted with groups of parents; however, the activities can be adapted for use in one group or for one-to-one instructional sessions.
