Description

The iSOSY website offers a wide range of valuable instructional materials designed for use with Out-of-School Youth (OSY). While the site contains an abundance of resources, locating effective lessons that align with both educator goals and student needs can be time-consuming and overwhelming. To address this challenge, the NYS-MEP has curated a packet featuring some of the most effective iSOSY language-learning resources for beginner-level English Language Learners (ELLs). Titled iSOSY English Packet: Lessons for Beginner-Level English Language Learners, this collection can be used as individual stand-alone lessons or as a cohesive mini-curriculum for OSY. The packet is especially beneficial for new staff seeking targeted, high-quality language resources, as well as experienced staff looking to refresh and expand their instructional materials.

In this session, we will explore the lessons included in the iSOSY English Packet in depth, share practical tips and strategies for delivering instruction both virtually and in the field, and discuss approaches for differentiating lessons to meet student needs. Session participants will also be introduced to additional language-learning resources available on the iSOSY website.
